JOB OPPORTUNITY
 
Lac qui Parle County Highway Department is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator at the Lac qui Parle Village Shop.  Primary duties will be, under general supervision, being able to operate all or a majority of the highway maintenance equipment required in maintaining and repairing the county roadway system.
 
Minimum qualifications include a high school education, and have a Commercial Driver License (Class A) and able to obtain the tanker endorsement.
 
Good knowledge in highway maintenance procedures and equipment, equipment maintenance, and the ability to do physical activities is desirable.
 
Starting pay is $18.27 per hour going to $20.81 per hour in one (1) year with benefits including insurance, cafeteria plan, and a retirement plan.

Dust Control

The Lac qui Parle County Highway Department will be applying dust control on county, township and community gravel roads in Lac qui Parle County as approved by the County Highway Engineer. Only liquid calcium chloride will be offered as dust coating treatment.
Residents living on county and township gravel roads or Local Units of Government with gravel roads, within Lac qui Parle County, who wish to have the dust coating, must make a request by April 27, 2018. No request will be accepted after this date.
Please call the Lac qui Parle County Highway Department at (320) 598-3878, or click on Dust Control Application Request at the bottom of this news release.  Email the form to sam.muntean@lqpco.com or mail/bring to Lac qui Parle County Highway Department, 422 5th Ave, Madison, MN  56256.
The cost of material and application will be $0.86 per running foot for those living on county roads, and $0.43 per running foot per pass for those living on township roads. This is based on 0.25 gallons of material per square yard. If you are a first time customer you may want to consider two passes for the first year or two. The gravel roads should be bladed prior to application; this must be arranged between the resident on township roads and the Township Board. Lac qui Parle County makes no guarantee of the performance of this product. The planned placement of the dust coating will be in mid-May to early-June of 2018.

5-YEAR CONSTRUCTION PLAN FOR ROADS AND BRIDGES

Notice is hereby given that on Monday, the 26th day of March, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Multimedia Conference Room in the Lac qui Parle County Annex building, 422 5th Street, Madison, Minnesota, the Lac qui Parle County Highway Department will hold a public hearing to discuss the draft five year construction plan for road and bridges in Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota.

The public hearing will review the current 2018 construction season and the proposed construction plan for the years 2019 through 2023.

All persons interested are invited to attend said hearing and be heard on this matter.  A draft copy of the Plan is available at www. Job Opening: Assistant Engineer in Training

Lac qui Parle County Highway Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Engineer in Training.  This position is to provide professional field and office civil engineering work, and supervise and coordinate county highway technical staff and operations.  Duties include, but are not limited to: supervising inspection duties; reviewing plans and sketches; negotiate right-of-way and easement purchases; operating instruments; and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Engineer.

Minimum qualifications include a high school education, and Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology with a minimum of eight years of experience in engineering, design, surveying or related in this field; or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and has passed the EIT test. 

Base Salary ranges from $25.50 to $33.90 per hour based on experience and education, with benefits including insurance, cafeteria plan, and a retirement plan.

Job Opening: Maintenance Supervisor

Lac qui Parle County Highway Department is accepting applications for a Maintenance Supervisor. This position is to provide roadway and bridge maintenance knowledge, coordinate and supervise county highway maintenance personnel, operations and the maintenance of the highway equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to: supervising maintenance operations; work with other public agencies; final approval of utility and access permits work; operating equipment; and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Engineer.

Minimum qualifications include a high school education, and Two (2) years of higher education and 6 years of experience, of a progressively responsible nature, in the field of highway maintenance and/or construction work, or 10 years of experience, of a progressively responsible nature, in the field of highway maintenance and/or construction work. Prior supervisory experience.  Must have a commercial driver license (Class A).

Base Salary ranges from $23.75 to $30.00 per hour based on experience and education, with benefits including insurance, cafeteria plan, and a retirement plan.

Highway 40 speed limit to increase to 60 mph

WILLMAR, Minn. – The speed limit on Highway 40 from the South Dakota border to the north Jct of Hwy 119 will increase from 55 mph to 60 mph.  Installation of new speed limit signs are scheduled, weather permitting, for the week of March 13, 2017.  Speed limits in Marietta and Madison will not change.  The increased speed limit change applies only to the area listed above.  All other posted speed limits will remain the same.

Lac qui Parle County Spring Load Restrictions

Lac qui Parle County seasonal load restrictions will start Friday, February 17, 2017, at 12:01 a.m.  All county paved roadways are 10 ton per axle unless posted otherwise, and county and township gravel roads will be restricted to 5 ton per axle.
