Construction Begins on New Government Center

Madison, Minn. – Lac qui Parle County’s new Government Center has broken ground and is taking shape on the northwest part of Madison along Highway 75. The facility will be the new home of the Sheriff’s Office, county jail and dispatch center, Community Corrections, Family Services, and Emergency Management Departments.

Concrete footings for the building have been poured with packing and other initial foundational work wrapping up this week. Crews will then begin erecting core structural beams and enclosing the building for winter in the coming weeks, which will help regulate temperatures inside for any floor concrete and other structural work being done which requires a stable environment. The shape of the building should be evident in the coming weeks.

Crews of around 20 are working at a given time, with many staying at Lou’s Lodge near the site. Building construction is expected to continue through 2024 with an anticipated opening date sometime in early 2025 depending on progress.

“We’ve been able to catch up on some early delays with the nicer weather conditions”, says Construction Manager Jordan Danielson, “further progress and slowdowns are all built into the project timeline so things are right on track.”

The City of Madison has annexed the property into city limits and has run electrical and plumbing to the site. Additional Media Releases relating to the new facility will be forthcoming as construction progresses.
