Environment - Watershed Posted on April 10, 2025

It’s time for the Spring Household Hazardous Waste Collection.  A Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event has been set for Wednesday, May 14th, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the County Highway Garage in Madison.  This event is open and free to all Lac qui Parle County residents.

Any old or unwanted paint, thinners, solvents, acids & bases, cleaning agents, pool chemicals, wood preservatives, home and garden pesticides, automotive, or other hazardous chemicals should be brought to the LQP County Highway Garage in Madison on May 14th from 3 to 6 p.m. for safe and environmentally friendly disposal.  The County Highway Garage in Madison is located South on Main Street, just east of the fairgrounds.

You can put your empty paint cans in your recycling if they have been rinsed free of paint residue.  However, if you’re unable to remove the residual paint, you can now bring the cans to the collection to be recycled.

For additional information or questions regarding the May 14th Household Hazardous Waste Collection, please contact the Lac qui Parle County Environmental Office at 320-598-3132.  You can also find more details on this and other recycling opportunities on the LQP County website.  Funded by the Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment (SCORE) grant program.
