Lac qui Parle County is responsible for administration of MPCA Chapter 7020 Feedlot Rules and the Lac qui Parle County Feedlot Ordinance which was adopted in 1997 and amended in 2001. The State legislature provides funding to counties to implement state feedlot regulations; the amount is primarily based on the number of feedlots within the County. The County has the responsibility for implementing state feedlot regulations including registration, permitting, inspections, education and assistance and complaint follow-up.
- All feedlot owners or operators must register sites over 50 animal units with the County.
- Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) permits feedlots over 1000 animal units. Operators over 1000 animal units are also required to apply for a NPDES permit.
